It is strange to see a television sitcom, or a movie for that matter, develop after the creation of a play of the same namesake, usually it would be the other way around where there would be a movie/TV show/book that would later be developed into a play. There are examples of this order, first play then movie and/or TV show being created. You mostly see this in Tyler Perry's works, as he started his career writing and performing in his famous Madea plays that would later on be turned into not as well done movies in my personal opinion.
Back to Superior Donuts though, this Television show ran for about Seasons on CBS starting in 2017 and ending in 2018. The premise of the show starts the same, but has many differences to the play making it an entity all on its own. The main story still follows Arthur and Franco struggling to keep the Donut shop open, and Franco wanting to modernize things to bring in more customers, but they add a lot more character stories to the mix and also put the gambling debt storyline under the rug for the show, which makes sense since they needed a serialized work that needed length and substance, some things were going to have to be sacrificed.
Here is the main Cast where Arthur was played by Judd Hirsch and Franco was played by Jermaine Fowler.
