Historical Context of Macbeth

According to Columbia College Shakespeare most likely wrote Macbeth in 1606. It was considered one of Shakespeare's most topical plays as it was a paradoxical representation of King James VI of Scotland who would later become King James I of England. It was first performed on the Globe Stage in London while Shakespeare worked under the King's Men under the patronage of King James I. It's themes and nature was seen as very graphic to the people of London and during it's premiere it was one of the least viewed of Shakespeare's works, especially for a tragedy. This is one of the reasons why the show is considered "cursed" and you aren't supposed to say the name of the show unless you are doing a production of Macbeth. One of the reasons it is cursed is also because when one does a production of Macbeth "bad" things tend to happen. Some places talk about maladies amongst the cast and crew, some productions talk about Props, Set, and Costume malfunctions during the run; the range is extensive.
